Joseph A. Berry
Joseph A. Berry is currently working as an independent
manufacturing consultant along with serving on the faculty of
Wayne County Community College as a Professor of
Manufacturing. Berry is the former Chairman, and CEO of TRC
Tool Industries, Inc., a position he held for 25 years, 1979 to
2004. In 1979 Berry purchased a small 3-man cutting tool shop
in Dearborn, Michigan with annual sales of approximately
$100,000.00. By the end of 1983, Berry had doubled the sales
of the small tool shop. Shortly after, recognizing his customer’
s needs, he created a distribution division for the company.
This endeavor proved to be very fortuitous. By 1985 annual
sales had grown to over $800,000.00. Later that year, Berry
expanded his operations again by purchasing Unique One Inc.,
a small machine shop operation that specialized in the
manufacture and repair of machine tool components and
details. Berry operated his entities out of two locations until
1988 when he consolidated them into one facility in Melvindale Michigan. By this time the
company’s annual sales had grown to $1,800,000.00.
Through the 90’s Berry continued to expand, creating one of the most diverse and
versatile organizations in the industry. By applying his principals of exceptional customer
service, quality, technical support and his “get it done” attitude, he reached annual sales of
just under $5,000,000.00 by 1997. On August 18, 2000 Berry broke ground on the building that
would eventually house Empire Specialty Tools, a gleaming state of the art 30,000 square foot
manufacturing facility located in Melvindale, Michigan. In addition to Berry’s management and
leadership skills he brings to the table over 30 years of manufacturing experience and
extensive technical ability. Berry has been very instrumental in the design and manufacture
of tooling for the Ford-150, and Dodge Dakota aluminum wheels, steering knuckles for the
Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, Taurus, Explorer, and the Dodge Neon, along with the Chevrolet
Corvette cylinder head. Berry’s most recent project was developing tooling for the new 2011
Ford Focus.
